Joe Root’s Hundred wins it for England in the first test

After resigning as captain of the England Test cricket team, Joe Root played an outstanding inning in leading England past New Zealand Cricket Team in their first Test match at Lords. Joe Root scored a magnificent 26th century and passed 10,000 Test runs to guide England to a five-wicket win against New Zealand on day 4 of the first game of the LV Insurance Series opener at Lords. Former England captain Joe Root scored an unbeaten century to hand successor Ben Stokes a winning start to his reign in the first Test at Lords on Sunday.

England’s Joe Root reached the milestone of ten on his way to 115 not out, setting up an impressive five-wicket win for England in the first Test against New Zealand, putting them ahead 1-0 in their three-match series with New Zealand. Former England captain Joe Root became only the 14th batsman, and just the second from England, to score a milestone of 10,000 career Test runs as he completed his unbeaten century. At 31 years and 157 days, Joe Roots’ record as the youngest man to reach the milestone is tied with Sir Alastair Cook; he is also the first to achieve it fewer than ten years after making his debut: it was his 118th Test after making his first appearance in the game – it was 118th Test after making his first appearance in 2012 against India. The century is former skipper Joe Root’s 26th Test century, level on points with West Indian great Sir Garfield Sobers, but will have been all the more pleased about the significance of this one for England.

Joe Root’s good fortune has come from an inside edge over the stumps more than once, but as he cut off Tim Southee at midwicket to make triple figures, he also became only the 14th man in Test history to hit the 10,000-run milestone. -Joe Root became the 14th batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs and finished with 115 not out, having shared a 120-run partnership for the sixth wicket, whose 32 not outs were also vital for England’s goal of achieving the 277-run.

With England struggling to get to their 69/4 target to chase 277 on a single-level, Joe Root made a first-class stand with Ben Stokes on 90, followed by a partnership of 120 with Ben Foakes, guiding England to victory by five wickets. The returning duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, England’s two most successful Test bowlers of all time, took precious wickets before England’s former captain Joe Root made an unbeaten century. Joe Roots’ magnificent century saw England secure a five-wicket victory in their first Test match against New Zealand.
