Sunrisers Hyderabad, a team from Hyderabad, took over the Deccan Chargers franchise. After the Deccan Chargers were kicked out of the IPL in 2012 because the owners opted to put the franchise up for sale, they made their IPL debut in 2013. After placing fourth in the points standings at the end of their inaugural season, they were able to advance to the playoff rounds. Under the leadership of David Warner, the Sunrisers won their first IPL championship in 2016, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore by an 8-run margin.
Returning to the Tata IPL 2023, a lot has changed for the Hyderabad team since they last competed in the final, including the release of their captain David Warner, who went on to play for the Delhi Capitals, his first franchise in the IPL, and the front-line spinner Rashid Khan, who joined one of the new franchises called Gujarat Titans. The Sunrisers Hyderabad were thought to have one of the strongest bowling units because they are consistently able to defend low totals because of their potent bowling department.
Team-wise Ranking by Strike Rate

The Sunrisers Hyderabad have fallen short when it comes to making an effect, with a strike rate of just 133.50 and an average of just 23.15, along with the Delhi Capitals, who are ranked second-last in terms of the impact made by strike rate, respectively. Their current rankings on the point table are very much reflecting the fact that they are unable to score runs at a greater strike rate. Their weak hitting lineup played a significant role in it. Due to this, both of these teams are currently on the cusp of elimination and are barely clinging on to any chance of making the IPL playoffs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Playoffs Qualification Scenario
The Sunrisers Hyderabad began their season similarly to the Mumbai Indians, losing their first two games in a row. They have only been able to win 4 of the 10 games they have played thus far, but with 8 points total, they have still managed to stay in the playoff race. Sunrisers Hyderabad must not only win their final four games in order to maintain their playoff hopes (16 points is the cut-off for playoff qualification), but they also need to do so thoroughly and by a wide margin in order to make up for their current poor net run rate.
Conclusion
Although it appears to be a difficult assignment for the Sunrisers Hyderabad to get to the playoffs, you never know and given how things have gone thus far in this competition, you can never entirely rule anyone out of it until the last match of the league stages is played. Under the direction of David Warner, they once again made it to the final game in 2018, however, this time they were defeated by the Chennai Super Kings.
