One of the two additional teams added to the Tata IPL 2022 to bring the total number of participating teams to ten was a Lucknow squad known as the Lucknow Super Giants, owned by Sanjeev Goenka. At a draught held prior to the Tata IPL 2022 player auctions, they chose KL Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi, and Marcus Stoinis as their three players. KL Rahul was eventually named the captain of LSG. In order to create a big impression in their first season, they assembled a team full of all-rounders under Rahul’s leadership. They performed admirably under the former Punjab Kings captain, finishing third in the standings and reaching the playoffs in their maiden Tata IPL season.
LSG’s Areas of Strength

There were great expectations for players like Quinton De Cock and KL Rahul in particular to perform well with the bat for LSG. KL Rahul, the captain, and Quinton De Cock followed suit because they both had outstanding batting seasons in which they each scored 500+ runs. KL Rahul (616 runs at a strike rate of 135.38) and Quinton De Cock (508 runs at a strike rate of 148.97), which is pretty outstanding for an opener, finished the season as the second and third-best run scorers of the Tata IPL 2022.
The emergence of Deepak Hooda as a middle-order hitter was a major breakthrough for LSG. A breakthrough in India’s T20 setup came as a result of his outstanding achievements with the bat for LSG when he scored 450+ runs at a strike rate of 136.67, including 4 fifties. Later on, he managed to get a spot in India’s T20 World Cup team for the tournament that would be held in Australia. Moreover, he went on to make his T20 World Cup debut against South Africa in Perth, where India lost. When it comes to the Tata IPL 2023, LSG’s batting unit will be their strongest point. KL Rahul will be banking on their batters to deliver a strong performance, yet again.
LSG’s Areas of Weakness

Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan, who were their top two wicket-takers alongside Jason Holder in the previous season and together took 47 wickets for LSG, were rising stars from the home circuit. Avesh Khan will be expected to perform well this season in addition to the expertise of their new signing Jaydev Unadkat to handle the pace department since Mohsin Khan will be out due to an injury and Jason Holder will be dismissed. LSG must devise a strategy to discover the availability of a Mark Wood who is fully fit, which is a significant question. In addition to Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, a promising leg-spinner for LSG, will be in charge of the spin department. Captain KL Rahul will be counting on Bishnoi to be his go-to spinner this year.
Conclusion
KL Rahul, the captain of LSG, must make wise use of his abroad slots and trust the underappreciated Indian talent to perform well if the team is to have a successful season and advance to the playoffs. It will be interesting to observe how LSG utilises the new Impact Player regulation to maximise the potential of their available roster.
