Shreyas Iyer, on his comeback, was the anchor of DC’s run chase against SRH where he scored a steady 47 off 41 balls. Iyer missed the first leg of the league in India due to a severe shoulder injury. He is a major part of this team and also the reason it reached its first IPL final in 2020 under his leadership. Iyer is also an important player as a batsman, as he is the number three batsman on this side. Ever since Iyer has been a part of this DC’s batting line-up, it has shown great composure and has been able to win matches based on its batting ability. Iyer is one of the top Indian batsmen in this unit, alongside Pant, Dhawan, and others. He can win matches on his own and has been one of the most dependable batsmen for DC.
Impressive Iyer – over the years
Iyer has been loyal to Delhi right from the start of his IPL career and has scored some dazzling innings right through his career. He has scored runs at a good average, and ever since he has become the captain of this young side, he has shown great composure with his bat. His ability to bat throughout the innings, and to hit big sixes at will earned his place in the Indian team in 2017. He has never shown any signs of downfall and has been a consistent performer for DC in the past three years.
Replacement for Iyer: ERROR 404 not found
Ever since Iyer was declared unfit for IPL 2021, tensions have arisen in the DC camp. They had to fill Iyer’s shoes and find the no.3 batsman, who could steady their innings and also can hit big shots. They had a few options in Smith and Rahane. They have the ability to bat through the innings, but they didn’t have the firepower like Iyer.
Rahane and Smith failed miserably in the first half of the leg. Rahane looked awfully out of touch in the single inning he played as he scored just eight runs. Smith got a few chances to prove his ability but also failed miserably, as he scored 70 runs at a poor average of 17.5. However, Pant scored at a decent average of 34 when he got a chance to bat at number three. But with Pant batting at number three, it exposed the batting unit of DC, which used to stumble at the back end of the innings. Iyer is a valuable member of this squad and has proved his ability at number three better than anyone else in the current squad. DC felt the absence of Iyer at number three during the first leg of IPL 21.
Indispensable Iyer
Iyer has been a prominent member of this young and new DC side for the past two years. Iyer makes the team look good in terms of their batting line-up. With Iyer batting at number three followed by Rishabh, Stoinis, and Hetmyer, the DC batting line-up looks one of the best in the tournament alongside their dashing opening combination of Shaw and Dhawan. Iyer has been the 3rd highest scorer for Delhi Capitals overall.
Iyer is a world-class player and has been an exceptional player for the Delhi Capitals for a long time now. With him coming back into the line-up, he makes a great impression, and with him in the XI, DC becomes a more threatening team than before. Although he is not leading the side this year, he still brings experience and balance to this young team. He can step up in pressure situations and win matches for the team on his own.
